Abstract

Access to public spaces for people living with disabilities is vital. This study evaluated The Inclusivity Scorecard, which is divided into two parts and assesses five priority areas. Part A identified accessibility of spaces with Phase 1 accessing reliability of the scorecard, and Phase 2 providing descriptive statistics of 49 spaces to measure the accessibility. Data analysis of the Inclusivity Scorecard Part A for inter-rater reliability, on three sites, yielded an alpha average = .930 with a range from .889 to .959. The evaluation of 49 coastal public spaces yielded descriptive statistics and cumulative frequency distributions with regards to safety, parking, entrance way, services provided and support of the staff working in the public space. These results confirm the reliability of the tool which can be utilized to improve the design of spaces and redesign accommodations to provide equitable access for people living with disabilities.
